Gear essentials for Tjoritja / West MacDonnell
Guide updated · kit ideas only — verify conditions with NT Parks
Pack for heat, UV, flies, rock and isolation — not a coastal day walk. Prioritise 3 L+ water, sun, grip and a reverse clock over gadgets. Open Pound floor and ridge lines have little shade; gorge water stays cold enough for hypothermia; a phone is not a rescue plan with no signal. Soft lookout days still need a hat and a full bottle.
